Answers to the questions we get asked most, about how Halal Food Brighton actually works.
"Fully halal" means the whole menu — food and drink — is halal. "Halal meat" means the meat served is halal, but the menu may include other items that are not, such as alcohol.
We've written a fuller explainer in our guide to the two terms.
We go by what the restaurant itself tells us — from their website, in person, or over the phone — rather than requiring formal certification. Treat this as a helpful starting point rather than the final word, and always double-check with the restaurant before ordering in case anything's changed.
Not necessarily. Right now we rely on what each restaurant tells us directly, rather than checking certification paperwork ourselves. If you know a certification detail we've got wrong, let us know and we'll check it.
Head to All Restaurants — filters for halal status, cuisine, price and more are in the sidebar, along with a search box and sort options. Every filter and count there only ever reflects what's actually published.
Use Near You — it can use your location, or a postcode or area you type in, to sort restaurants by real distance on a map, with a radius filter.
They're checked against each restaurant's listed opening hours and the current time — but hours can change, especially around holidays, so it's worth double-checking with the restaurant directly if you're making a special trip.
Use Suggest a Place — tell us the name and area, plus anything else that helps, and we'll take a look. It won't appear on the site automatically; every suggestion is checked by hand first.
Yes — use the same Suggest a Place form and describe what needs correcting in the notes (wrong halal status, wrong address, permanently closed, and so on). We'll check it and update the listing if needed.
No — we check every suggestion ourselves before adding anything, so it can take a little while, and not every suggestion ends up listed.
Yes, completely free for diners — and free for restaurants to be listed, too. This site came out of frustration at how hard it was to find halal-friendly restaurants, so I hope it's a useful resource for you as well.
A Guide is a round-up or explainer put together from the real listing data already in the directory. A Review is a first-hand account of an actual visit. Both are tagged clearly on Guides so you always know which you're reading.
Let us know via Suggest a Place and we'll check it and update or remove the listing.
Yes — email us at [EMAIL PLACEHOLDER] if you'd like to invite us to visit in person, correct your own listing, or ask anything else. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
